Magnetic surfaces: the series

Posted in Artworks

Starting from an initial idea, Davide Boriani has developed through the years and by close variations several series of artworks (Superficie magnetica, Ipercubo, Ph.scope, etc.). These series can not be represented adequately by one sample work, be it a prototype or the optimal result reached through close variations years after.

These are the Tavole elettromagnetiche (“Electromagnetic tables”) and the Superfici magnetiche (“Magnetic surfaces”) exhibited at Miriorama 2, the solo exhibition of Davide Boriani at Galleria Pater in Milan, January 1960.

The above featured image is a detail of Tempo fermo (“Still time”, 1959, Stucco on prepared jute, 70 by 100 cm). The artwork was shown at the exhibition of Anceschi, Boriani, Devecchi, Colombo at Galleria Pater in Milan, September 1959. Superficie magnetica n. 1 can be considered a kinetic version of Tempo fermo.
